It is no lie that it is a serious trend for many women all over the world especially Black women, call it The Black Woman Deficiency. In Uganda, its a real concern on how most of our women are not content with their skin tone and color,(weren’t they told black is beauty?) On research with my friends I asked them about their opinion on bleaching and on average, they say, “lighter-skinned women are considered more beautiful, are believed to be more successful and likely to find marriage partners” as seen from celebrities, influential persons, media and many other sources. However, not only are women obsessed with bleaching their skins but also some men too are involved in the practice. What are bleach products? The beauty industry always keeps coming up with something new to grab our attention. These products may range from soaps, lotions, serums, creams, tablets, injections, gum balls(candy sweets) name it name it but beware of the dangerous substances that can harm your skin. Hydro quinine and Mercury are the highly and fast chemical substances that are a catalyst to all bleaching products, so the continuous and persistent use of them reduces melanin production and eats away the skin layers which make it thinner and prone to bacterial infections, redness of the skin, skin burns and other irritable reactions Bleach Effects Few people fail to pay attention to these dangers because for those who bleach, staying black is not beautiful at all. Skin bleaching agents have both internal and external effects on those who use them and come with hazardous health consequences like blood cancers such as leukemia and cancers of the liver and kidneys as well as severe skin conditions. In the long run it causes things like kidney failure because of the mercury in some of the products and it also causes eczema, skin pigmentation among a host of other infections. Way Forward Many women just don’t feel appreciated enough, and the social pressure is ringing at the back of their minds, that Is why they will opt for skin bleaching and that is not a solution for the problem. If you are faced with this situation, seek psychiatric aid or serious counseling. Other women have uneven tones, skin imbalances, skin irritations and when you think about it, the first thing that would pop on your mind is none other than buying creams for yourself to help out on the situation, still not the solution. Seeking dermatological perspective is best suited and it is not as expensive as you might think yet bleaching is more expensive and time consuming. Lastly, not every remedy suggested via the internet, you tube tales will work for you, you need to know your skin ph, skin ratio all this through skin testing. Stay Beautiful maintain a Rich, Young and Alive Face.
