Who is Kaijuka Abbas?
I am an award winning Ugandan celebrity stylist turned Fashion designer., a one and two times nominee in the Nigerian Men’s Fashion Week Awards and Swahili Fashion Week Awards respectively.

What sparked your interest in fashion?
I am a perfectionist and I pay close attention to detail that anything wrong with one’s outfit would rub me the wrong way, hence my efforts to always put right my friends’ looks ended up calling me into styling.

How has your work evolved since you began your own label?
I started out as a wardrobe stylist and evolved into a celebrated fashion designers.

What do you think of Ugandan fashion?
Ugandan fashion is a collective of multi-cultured fashion in sync with the global market trend but without a wholesome clear  component of a unique Ugandan identity.

What are three pieces every woman should have in her wardrobe?

  • A Perfect pair of formal trousers
  • Alittle chick black dress
  • One statement heel

Can you name a celebrity look you’ve loved in your designs?
Sheebah’s finale look for her latest mwooyo concert.

 How can a woman dress sexily without showing much skin?
Anything body hugging always flatters and makes a woman’s body look sexy

If you could go back and tell yourself one thing before beginning your career what would it be?
To quit my office Job much earlier and chase my passion.

How is working in fashion different today from when you started out?
It’s a Job, not a hobby anymore.

How is your work received internationally?
It’s received as highly competitive, Fashion forward and befitting for the international market.

How do influences from outside of Africa find their way into your work?
By use of  social media.

What role do you think social media plays in fashion today?
Social media is the world’s biggest marketing platform for fashion,brand awareness and visibility. Helps to reach new limitless audiences and has returns on sales.

What advice would you give to young designers just starting out and hoping to make it in the industry?
Have a purpose, be prayerful , persistent  and patient.
